Irish Travel Agents Association (ITAA)

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Policy

Our Commitment

The Irish Travel Agents Association (ITAA) is committed to promoting responsible, ethical and sustainable business practices to our members.  The ITAA is committed through leading by example, supporting our members in developing their own ESG initiatives, and ensuring that ESG principles are reflected throughout the Association’s own activities.

Through education, collaboration, advocacy and continual improvement, the ITAA aims to contribute positively to the travel industry, local communities and the wider environment.

Responsible Travel

The ITAA is committed to promoting responsible tourism that respects destinations, cultures, communities and the natural environment. We encourage responsible travel practices and support initiatives that protect natural and cultural heritage while promoting sustainable tourism throughout the industry.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

The ITAA is committed to maintaining an inclusive, respectful and professional environment. We promote equality of opportunity, diversity and non-discrimination in all aspects of our work and comply with all applicable employment and equality legislation.

Supporting Communities

The ITAA recognises the positive contribution that travel can make to local economies and communities. We encourage members to work with responsible suppliers and local partners, support sustainable tourism initiatives, and foster strong relationships with tourism organisations, government bodies and industry stakeholders.

Animal Welfare

The ITAA supports tourism experiences that respect the welfare of animals and encourages members to work with suppliers that demonstrate recognised animal welfare standards. We promote responsible practices that discourage animal cruelty or exploitation and ensure that our own activities reflect these principles.

Anti-Slavery and Human Rights

The ITAA is committed to conducting its activities with integrity, transparency and respect for human rights. We encourage members to undertake appropriate due diligence when selecting suppliers and business partners and support compliance with all relevant legislation relating to modern slavery and human trafficking.

Child Protection

The ITAA recognises the importance of safeguarding children within the travel and tourism industry. We encourage members to work with suppliers that demonstrate appropriate child protection and safeguarding standards, support initiatives that help prevent the exploitation of children in tourism and comply with all applicable child protection legislation. The ITAA is also committed to comply with all applicable child protection legislation in its own activities.

Environmental Responsibility and Carbon Reduction

The ITAA is committed to reducing the environmental impact of its own operations where practical while encouraging greater environmental responsibility across the travel industry. We will promote awareness of carbon reduction, climate action and sustainable travel initiatives and support members in adopting practical measures that contribute to a more sustainable future.

Education, Training and Member Support

Supporting members is central to the ITAA’s ESG commitment. With the support of the ITAA Responsible Travel Committee, we will provide guidance, practical resources and policy templates, deliver training and educational events, and share industry best practice and emerging developments to help members strengthen their own ESG programmes.

Governance and Ethical Business

The ITAA is committed to the highest standards of governance, transparency and accountability. We will operate with integrity and professionalism, maintain effective governance through our Board and committees, comply with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements, and manage the Association’s resources responsibly. This policy will be reviewed periodically to ensure it remains relevant and reflects evolving best practice.

Continuous Improvement

The ITAA recognises that ESG is an evolving journey. We are committed to continually reviewing and strengthening our own practices while supporting members in implementing ESG principles appropriate to their businesses. By working collaboratively with members, partners and stakeholders, the ITAA aims to help build a more responsible, sustainable and resilient Irish travel industry.
