Dublin, 18th February 2016 The Irish Travel Agents Association (ITAA) has released the results of their latest quarterly members survey which shows that 90% of travel agents saw an increase in business in 2015. 80% of travel agents surveyed said that their level of bookings for the fourth quarter of 2015 increased significantly in comparison to the same period in 2014, with 15% of all agents revealing that said their bookings had increased by more than 20%
In the survey over 50% of ITAA travel agents said that their offline business had increased in 2015, proof that more and more Irish holiday makers are realising the benefits of face-to-face interaction with travel professionals. The growth in the travel sector in 2015 was also evident in the 33% of ITAA travel agents who increased their staffing levels and the 68% of agents who saw a rise in the budgets that people have to spend on their holidays.
The results of the ITAA member survey also illustrated the continued popularity of Spain, as 80% of travel agent declared that Spain was the most popular travel destination in 2015. Following recent terror attacks in Egypt and Tunisia, Irish holidaymakers are turning to alternatives such as the Canary Islands, which have seen a large increase of bookings during the winter period, and Portugal, which has seen a large portion of family holiday bookings. Looking ahead to 2016, 75% of ITAA members expect Spain to be their most popular destination of the year.
Pat Dawson, CEO of the ITAA, commented, “These survey results come after a very successful month of booking enquires to ITAA member agents. 2016 looks to be a good year for travel agents with 95% of our members predicting an increase in turnover. I hope that in the coming year more people will continue to discover the great value and service that Irish travel agents are offering.”
The ITAA represents Ireland’s travel Industry, bringing together 100 member companies covering 161 outlets in different towns and cities throughout the Republic of Ireland.
