Using internet on mobile phones abroad could cost you ‘more than your holiday’ | Irish Examiner

Can’t stop posting photos of picture-perfect infinity pools, exotic lunches and images of yourself holding a breezy cocktail that’s making all your friends and family jealous?

While sharing your holiday exploits on social media is a great way to show everyone how much fun you’re having, unfortunately it’s not so great for your bank balance. Citizens Advice in the UK is warning that using the internet on your mobile while abroad can end up costing more than the holiday itself.

The charity said people travelling outside the EU can face bills of thousands due to high charges and because they do not realise how quickly costs can rise or even that they are using roaming data. We all like to upload our holiday snaps (Ng Han Guan/AP)

It is urging the UK Government and providers to work on a voluntary agreement to stop shock bills, which would include more warnings for consumers about costs and a voluntary price cap.
